Episode 107: WWE 2K17 (XBOX One)

WWE 2K17 is a professional wrestling video-game game developed by Yuke’s and Visual Concepts, and is published by 2K Sports for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One and Microsoft Windows[1] It is the eighteenth game in the WWE game series (fourth under the WWE 2K banner) and is serving as the follow up to WWE 2K16.

  1. 2K being lazy??? What??? NO!!!!! SARCASM These are the same guys who give us 1 new arena, the dlc from the year before and recycle all the same old animations and everything we've been seeing since the ps2 games and maybe 10+ new wrestlers and have the audacity to charge $60.

  2. The 4:3 ratio on the old titantrons can be made to look better, but they can't really be "fixed". They could stretch them out to 16:9, but that would look just as bad, if not worse than the black bars. Generally what is done with old 4:3 footage is, they will blow the video up to 16:9 and then blur it. And then paste an overlay of the 4:3 video over top of the blurred one. So now the black bars on the side become a feathered image of what is playing.

  3. They made universe mode unplayable by having to sit through all those loading screens and check the matchcard yourself. I'd rather just press X to sim through all the crap matches and play a main event but it's awful. I just sim to the ppvs through the calendar now instead which makes sd and raw pointless

  4. "Now we never have to watch a powerhouse, scary, emotionless wrestler celebrate their 32nd squash match like they just won the Royal Rumble"

Oh man, for years I remember we had that single animation for winning a title. It would look so ridiculous seeing Undertaker or Stone Cold fall to his knees, start crying and then run up on the turnbuckles holding the title in the air all happy and shit after winning a title.

  5. This game was outdated when it came out. No Universal title, no brand split, no new stages or music. Outside of that I really enjoyed it and have logged more hours in than I'd care to admit lol. The series is headed in the right direction!

  6. I had this game and there one problem in the game. I was playing my favorite wrestler Edge to go one with one with John Cena as the World Heavyweight champion. When Edge come out from his entrance, he come out with the World Title on him. It's not nwo heavyweight championship just the World title.

  7. I am not a big fan of the show, but I like the recent games barring WWE 2K15 since WWE 13. Don't even get me started with the Smackdown vs Raw series; those games were terrible and straight up boring. For some reason, I hate pro wrestling the show, but honestly Bret Hart was right about the WWE games as he said that they try to make it all the more real with each installment, but the games are never perfect.
IMO WWE 2K14 is perhaps the all-time best wrestling game and the closest wrestling game to perfection surpassing WWE 13 in most steps of the way. Best part about WWE 2K17 is that it gives Wrestle Kingdom 2 really tough competition which no one really mentions.
Nikateen gave the most spot-on review about WWE 2K17.

  8. one thing about wwe 2k17 males no sense
when I tried to upload a belt called the wwe hardcore title
it said that hardcore is an inappropriate word
even though there is the wcw and wwe hardcore titles in the game

  9. The number one feature I want in WWE 2K18 is what sports games have had for years? The ability to choose sides and switch wrestlers mid match to make a more full match instead of a one sided beatdown or a reverse fest. Real wrestling matches go one person in control then the other they switch back and fourth until the final finish.

  10. granted I haven't watched WWE in a long time n i wound up not playing their games for a while because it just wasn't the same no more. However I am willing possibly giving this game a try n purchasing it just 4 fun. It looks more in depth than be4 a huge amount of nostalgia goin on from the 80'$ on down to the 90's. Some may be upset there is no voice acting, but hey I can get passed that. That's how WWF games were back in the day n it was koo. This kinda does bring me back.

  11. I tried to play the Career mode and got bored quick. Showcase needs to return. 2K17 is the most glitchiest game I've ever played. Also can't be bothered with Universe Mode. One of my biggest gripes with the game is the inconsistency with of logos in create an arena compared to create a show and the calendar in universe mode. It's also rather annoying that editing some wrestlers attires results in things like AJ Styles flipping his hood up and still having it on or Samoa Joe pulling his towel off from around his neck and still having a towel there. 2K also changed up the way ladders and tables are positioned so now in this years game I want them to update the chair so we can do moves into folded our chair like the RKO for example, and to bring back trash cans and trash can lids in the weapon wheel. Speaking of the wheel, that should be available in a Hell In A Cell match, the Cell should have a door, there should be entrances in HIAC with wrestlers actually going through the door after the Cells been lowered, entrances in the Elimination Chamber and eight and ten man tags as well as up to ten wrestlers in the ring for a Royal Rumble. This far into the Series that is something that should have happened by now
