Vincent Kennedy McMahon, a wrestling promoter and CEO of WWE, was born on August 24, 1945 in Pinehurst, North Carolina. He didn’t meet his father, Vincent J. McMahon, until he was 12 years old, since the father had left the family when the young Vince was an infant. He had an older brother, Rod, and married his wife Linda on August 26, 1966. The couple has two children, Shane (born January 15, 1970) and Stephanie (born September 24, 1976), both of whom work in the WWE.
McMahon graduated from East Carolina University in 1968, and soon began announcing matches in his father’s wrestling organization. He branched out a few years later, promoting matches, and soon became an important part of the company by increasing television syndication of matches. In the 1980’s, he aggressively marketed the organization, and took advantage of the many cable channels that needed programming. That led to the start of the WWE’S signature event, Wrestlemania, in 1985. Each event made millions from large crowds and pay-per-view sales. As the company continued to grow, it decided to go public, which made McMahon a billionaire, since he owns almost two-thirds of it.
Presently, McMahon is worth an estimated $750 million, with that number fluctating daily. At his highest point, McMahon was worth almost $1.6 billion, but corrections since then have diminished that amount by more than half. Much of the reason for that drop is speculated to be due to the slow growth of the company’s online streaming network.
